In order to improve our pigs and keep up with neighbouring countries, we must often replace our breeding sows with new ones from abroad. This is important as we do not have enough pigs in Malta to allow for much selection. A single breeding farm abroad can have many more pigs than we have in all the farms in Malta and Gozo put together.
